It’s not always 6 man limits, Sunshiney Days and Single Shot Kills.  Some memories made are the knd you can laugh at later.  This was our first time at JJJ, obviously in the dark.  I followed the purple line on the map as best i could, but I reckon I made a wrong turn somewhere.  As I tried to cross the dry creek the front end sank.  Option 1: Forward/Reverse rock it back and forth and work it on out.  No dice.  Option 2: Shove rocks and wood under the tires and try again. Not even close. Option 3: You boys puch and I’ll floor it. Almost. As I’m sitting there wondering how much is this going to cost me and how can we salvage this hunt… Option 4: Pray. Nick said, dad before we give up do you want to say a prayer? 1 prayer and 2 tries later we were out, reversing up the hill towards the dam.  We parked the truck slight below the dam and walked across the spillway.  We were stuck for 45-50 mins.  By the time we made it to the blind it was 5 minutes past shooting light.  Birds were flying!!! FYI the blind is in water about calf deep. We started throwing out decoys not realizing how quickly it gets deep!!! Wind was light enough to give the decoys a nice realistic movement, but strong enough to push decoys and birds across the lake.We had 2 groups buzz by and circle twice and leave.  Should have taken the passing shot.  Solo spoony hen came from behind/left of the blind.  Lit at the decoys and was dropped.  Several fly-bys and high circlers.  2 groups landed near the dam.  A solo Bluebill hen came from the dam and was taken.  Both birds were too deep to retrieve and floated across the lake to the bank.  The decoys were a different story.  3 of the 4 stopped in about 4.5’ of water.  Nick was able to get 2 of them, but the goose decoy was a little bit further.  He took 1 step too many and water spilled into his waders.  He scrambled out, stripped down to his boxers and watched his brother give it a go.  Austin was using the the Texas rig to lasso the goose.  After 17 tries, a shivering Nick put his waders back on and headed down to tag team it.  Just as he got there Austin lassoed the stray goose and we were gone.  There is still a decoy near the blind that we could not reach.  We will definitely go back, lots of duck activity at shooting light.
